About Us

At Gourmet Fields we’re committed to bringing to the world what is only known to a few… Costa Rica’s unique and exceptional flavors!

We produce fine chocolates, premium coffee and a variety of gourmet products. All of our selection of raw materials and high quality ingredients are locally grown at the volcanic region and ideal climate of the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica.

Our country has one of the oldest democracies in the world with no army since 1948 and a firm goal of becoming the first carbon-neutral country by 2021. We’re  blessed with an incredibly diverse wildlife, high altitude volcanoes and a large tropical rainforest, making it one of the best places in the world for growing cacao and coffee beans - hence our brand name GOURMET FIELDS™!

SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

GOURMET FIELDS LTD is a certified member of the Rainforest Alliance™; this means that farm workers follow more sustainable agricultural practices that protect forests, rivers, soils and wildlife, while being good community neighbors. Rainforest Alliance certification also ensures that workers have just wages and improved access to dignified living conditions, health care and education for their children.

We also encourage Organic farming which is a way of producing food that respects natural life cycles. It minimises the human impact on the environment and operates as naturally as possible, in accordance with objectives and principles including the following:

  • Crops are rotated so that on-site resources are used efficiently
  • Chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, antibiotics and other substances are severely restricted
  • Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are banned
  • On-site resources are put to good use, such as manure for fertiliser or feed produced on the farm
  • Disease-resistant plant and animal species adapted to the local environment are used
  • Livestock are raised in a free-range, open-air environment and are fed on organic fodder
  • Animal husbandry practices are tailored to the various livestock species
